Even in the darkest moments of my life...I am aware that 'nothing' I go through can compare to what so many members of our armed forces have ...and are still...going through in defence of this great nation. I am so thankful for them. You see, as the mother of a veteran...I take it personal...

J ust who are they...coming from every corner of this nation...those who...

U nder the leadership of that 'invisible' hand...and...

S eeing their country's plight... elect to...

T ake the vows of perseverance and loyalty...they are

S ustained by nothing but...love of God and country...opting to...

O verlook the perils of their response and...

L eaning... heavily upon faith...they follow orders to

D eploy to far off foreign lands where the only 'light' is within...but...

I nstead of murmur they bravely fight...some lose their lives...some lose...

E xtremities and there are those who lose their ability to reason...

R ationally...but still...they are proud to have sacrificed it all....

S aints? Maybe some....but most are....JUST SOLDIERS

Just soldiers does them justice, for they are only maimed by the roulette wheel of fortune. And some are accidentally made heroes by their circumstance. Most, I would believe, enter today's armed forces for monetary gain (college, a career, a way to support their young family, etc.) rather than the glory of their country against (often unwarranted) foes of various stripes, some bad, some innocent, and most, just like us, but demonized, nonetheless.

Yes, we should mourn them when they die. Yes, we should support them after they come back. But we should not honor them for war.

A fine tribute, Joyce; I find it sad that after all of this time man still finds it necessary to send "just soldiers" off to be killed or maimed. The evils of war sadly seem a timeless theme on this planet. Thank you. Love and blessings,

Regis
