I Believe...(Pier's Challenge)

" I believe in love..."

This poem is the oldest work of mine still posted here.
It was written in reponse to a challenge of sorts offered by Pier Tyler...to write a piece about what we believe in.
I have upgraded it...made a few minor corrections, but feel it justly illustrates a few of those things I believe in.

I Believe…

I believe soft rain
Is a needed libation
For body and soul…
That tossing a coin
Into a wishing well is not
Superstitious waste…
I believe mirrors
Reflect greater things in life
Than bleak vanity…
That books are gateways,
Magical doors to different
Times, places and realms…
I believe that trees
Are poets working in shades
Of color and light…
That hot, chicken soup
With warm, crusty, buttered bread
Will cure anything…
I believe in love,
That it can be found
In a single word or touch
And reveals itself at first sight…
I believe a heart
Knows when love is true ,
Knows that it takes work
Knows bumps in the road exist…
That it gets better with age
And has the sweet mystery
Of being so effortless.

I believe E. that this is the most endearing poem I've read in ages! Almost as though every word took a breath of its own.
I've been so busy writing that I've missed the beauty of others too long, now I feel as though I'm starved for the nourishment this poem radiated.
Wonderful awesome write E. Lisa

Soooo true! Loved this, and the part about the bread was just killing me, made me instantly hungry, not good at 1am!

EW,

This brought tears to my eyes - truly. So moving and true! It has all the markings of a commencement address one might give to students about to enter the larger world. I will give this to my kids for just that reason.

Absolutely outstanding.

I believe just about all those things, myself, Erny!
And my favorite meal to "cook up" is home-made chicken soup,
with fresh-baked, crusty bread.

Getting hungry?

Absolutely BRILLIANT Credo here, EW... so coolly done and "seeming so effortless"!! So many good truths expressed with a simple flair for what will capture the imagination. Fantastic ending, too, which hits the nail on the head completely. The sweet mystery of the effortlessness of what just simply "is" and continues to grow - just like the flowers in your garden!! I like your style, Sir! Am saving this. Many thanks - and for visiting my page! Kate :)
