A Tribute to Marion Moon

There is a woman smiling,
picturing her imagination,
her intense love of life, cats and horses,
mathematics and words.
I smile back, through my tears.
I see her compassion for humanity
in the sweep of her lips, her passions
in the jaunt of her hat, her strength
in her hands, casually holding her coffee cup,
and I mourn her spirit’s passing.
Marion Moon? Do you even now
swim in the Amazon?
Cuddle a cat?
Urge on a horse, racing your husband
over distant lands?
Do you see moons and countryside
we do not? I believe you do.
I felt a chill while the New Year dawned
as I sat on a backyard picnic table,
my own cup of coffee cooling,
watching my cats and thinking sad thoughts.
Marion Moon, I am sorry for that.

How very tragic Erin. Life is so damn short and cruel sometimes.

I went to her site and read her story Raud. She was talented and beautiful...such a smile should have seen the greying years....A beautiful tribute from a truly kind heart.

ty for sharing this, Dani

... I was thinking of your butt-to-the-picnic-plank poem too when i first read this news ... but, you my dear, do not mislabel your introspection that morning as wrong, and even if your thoughts were sad that morning, do not allow this woman's death to close a part of you, any part of you. All thoughts are valid, and this woman obviously knew that, lived an honest and authentic life. She is physically gone, but like your poem and ponders ... there are still cats to cuddle and horses to race against husbands. Even for her. The spirit does not die. This was a beautiful tribute. Hugs Erin. -A
