The lover of my soul,
He who dwells on high,
Bids me heed His call,
Draws me to His side.
Strong and tender are the cords,
Weaving through my mind,
Wooing sweetly, ever yearning,
Trusting in His love to bind.
Who is this persistant One?
Ever patient, kind and true ,
Overlooking all my failures,
Forgiving all the wrong I do.
Come, into my pavilion,
Mercy and grace abound,
Sweet solace for the wounded,
Love, powerful, all around.
Who would deny to answer,
How cruelly turn away,
From such pure devotion
Who could wish to stay?
Breathe His name in joy,
Let His light fill your eyes,
Hearken now to His yearning,
Let your soul fill with desire.
Forsake earth's lowly duties
Leave cares to other hands,
Arise, sweetheart of the Lord,
Be loosed from mortal bands.
Come, come, my beloved,
Let your spirit leave the ground,
Fly, fly quickly to my side,
Peace awaits, pleasures abound.
