A wonderful poem by Author Johnny Bodley reflecting the lives of some children in America.

The Only Eyes That I See

Pitiful eyes, intoxicated eyes,

Mean and evil eyes, black within blue eyes, abused eyes, green surrounded by black eyes, Hungry eyes, sad eyes, po’eyes, hopeless eyes, in need of love eyes, hateful eyes, lustful eyes, Sick and tired of being sick and tired eyes, dying eyes, crying eyes, pleading eyes, bleeding eyes, dirty eyes, Begging eyes, and tired and weary eyes. The only eyes that I see as a child are these, and they evolves around me everyday. They're the ones that are in my life twenty four seven in some kind of good or bad way. It’s kind of hard to get away from them especially the ones that mean me no good. Sometimes it seems that I’m suppose to be with them, even a part of them, maybe one of them. It would be so easy for me to be just another pair of sick and lonely eyes for the world to see. Sometimes I wish I could just fly away to where divisiveness, prejudice, stigma, poverty, immorality, abuse, and injustice didn’t exist. To some children that’s an impossible dream but to some like me it’s more than a wish. I know that I can be different because there’s so much good inside of my soul, but right now as a sad and lonely troubled child who longs to be free these types of eyes are the only ones that I see.

                                                                                                          JB eyes....

The eyes are the windows to our soul..Childrens eyes should shine and laugh.
Such deep writing. WOW!

True, all kinds of hurting children out there with forlornfull eyes. Some that don't have the love they need, some without 2 parents, some that are in trouble with the law for reasons they don't even think about, and others too. Children are special in God's sight though.

People don't like to see these kind of eyes in real life. Just in the movies maybe. Your poem does what all great poetry does...exposes all of humanity to the full range of human experience! Keep writing from the heart, brother. Your poetry offers a glimpse of hope to many who need to see.

Wow, excellent penmanship... depicting what's sadly true of so many of our children today...

Hello Johnny,
I Feel Your Poetic Express As I Visually Also See These Eyes With Your Words.
The deepest love & truth are in the eyes of a child. The burdens, the turmoils & the forgiveness, their love is pure.

Outstanding poemization of feelings of a dark time. "The Only Eyes That I See" takes the reader to the HALL of Humanity.

I liked what I read.

Thank You for posting this flower. "The Only Eyes That I See" strikes the womb of the reader's soul.

I salute You, Poet.
