The Idol

He used to be the boy next door, but - Boy - look at him now!
He's turned into a sex-god and the girls all mop their brow.

He wasn't all that popular, he didn't seem too bright
but now he woos them with his song, and it's an awesome sight.

He used to be a dreamer but - for him - the dream came true .
He bought his Dad a flash new car, and for himself bought two!

And people hang on to his every word each time he talks.
And girls who used to overlook him worship where he walks.

He used to be the boy next door, he's now a household name
and ordinary life can never, never be the same.

And maybe he will keep a grip as life hits the fast lane
or maybe he'll fall prey to decadence and go insane!

He thinks that he is loved but it is closer to obsession
'cause no-one really knows him, though he makes a grand impression.

He has a manufactured image and lots of appeal
but if the fans got closer, they may find he's no big deal.

He's very much an idol and he soon induces tears
but he will still fall over if he drinks too many beers

and though the boy has 'made it', he just wants to make it more
though sometimes he'd still like to be the wannabe next door.

Maybe the dream is really a nightmare. Maybe he's misunderstood.

Well penned, Karen. Would you believe the image of "Gaston" from Beauty and Beast came to mind! :)
Writing Prose is so much more interesting than writing in traditional poetry style! So much more enjoyable to read...and no frustration guessing what is meant! Excellent!
