“Him”

Toady is my wedding day
Today I lost my best friend
“Him”
Today I buried my best friend
From childhood
We went back a long way
Together.

We studied in the same school
He was always by my side
He was there in “Nam”
Ran along my side, in the jungles
We shared the same foxhole
Fought the same battles
The same enemy.

After the war
We returned to the same
Shameful treatment
Other soldiers were subject to.

Spat upon in the airports
Called names and killers
By scumbags
That enjoyed such freedoms
While we were there

All these thoughts merged
Upon me
At a moment
As I walked away
From his grave
Down a lonesome trail
The lone piper, faded behind me
Playing amazing grace.

I knew I’ll never see him again
My one and only true
Imaginary friend
“Him.”

;( this pulls at my heart...

"We shared the same foxhole
Fought the same battles
The same enemy."

this made me pull out the tissues
this in itself is a bond of steel
raw emotions are shared here
Thank You for sharing this William

and as for coming home, I Am Sorry
it is just triffling when people attack
out of their own ignorances...we can't
help others who are self rightious &
you can bet your bottom ass dollar
they are cowards....

A new marriage marks the beginning of a new life. A life for imaginary friends aren't needed anymore. A brilliant idea and a new twist to the problem of reentering society after war.

THERE IS NOTHING IMAGINARY ABOUT 'HIM'...YOU CANNOT BURY 'HIM' FOR HE WAS BURIED ONCE AND HAS RISEN! 'HE' IS REAL AND WILL NEVER CEASE TO LOVE YOU AND ONE DAY YOU WILL SEE 'HIM', FACE TO FACE. Heartstopping poetry! This poem grabbed me and held me tight. Amazing, I know you wrote it in 07 but it is still mainstream...

Wonderful post for today! Happy Memorial Day, my dear man.

Peace, love and light,
Amber
