WANDERIN MAN
“ THE GAME AFTER THE GAME”
Well, it’s a mighty big payday
time fer movin on,
the big talker who’d lost
was already up and gone.
With my pockets a bulgin
I head fer the door
hopin Smith-N-Wesson
will even up the score.
I watch fer a group
a fixin to leave,
hopin the extra numbers
discourage the thieves.
Big dollar games
attract lots a lookers,
not jist the crooks,
often times hookers.
I’m jist a lookin fer cover,
a way out a this dive,
need to git to my hog
an git there alive.
Once I’m on the road
I know all the tricks,
but til I git to my hog
I’m still in a fix.
A lady of the evenin,
one I call “friend,”
kindly makes the offer
to lend me a hand.
We walk out together,
she calls the valet.
When he brings up her car
a hundred dollar chip is his pay.
I said you haven’t seen us
we’ll be back after dinner,
gave him a wink
so he’d think me a sinner.
We drive fer a spell,
then stop fer a bite,
I spring fer a room,
an her rate fer the night.
We rest fer an hour er so
then back to the dive,
I hop on my hog
pretend it has overdrive.
Then it’s back to the room,
no sense wasting a bed,
I’ve an urge to party,
but I’ll sleep instead.
Tomorrow my bank roll
will be in a real bank.
Til then, time well spent,
will be a watchin my flank.
My lady of the evenin
came along fer the ride.
We’ll order room service
an pretend she’s my bride.
We’ll wake in the morning
to a brand new day,
find another new dive,
there’s more games to play.
