A glimpse of too much time spent in Connecticut.

Candlewood Lake

by s.c.virtes

===

The omniscient bulk
of a rock-tumbled hill
so far off across the mirror-waves
wearing proud trunks for hair
staring down at its reflection
grooming itself for some
     inconceivable
     date with eternity --
but everything passes
with a whisper of denial,

It will sink slowly
into the calm dissolving waters
and join its brother forgotten hills
in a final rest of mineral spirit.

=== end ===

Accepted for "Earth Realms" anthology (2001), but then the whole site vanished.

Really nice, Scott. You have a subtle eye.

Not enough time spent, it would seem. It reads like a place worth seeing and knowing and experiencing.

Very nice, but I can't really envision a hill being omniscient. Otherwise, it's quite good. Too bad about the site vanishing. That's often the case with small press magazines, be they print or electronic.

Whew! Do I ever like this one. The whole thing is great. Thanks.

Reminds me of the North Canadian Shield. I can see that old rock cut, standing there like a memory you dropped along the way.
