June 1924 - Aug 2011.

Today, I want to carve
Weeping words in the sky
For a father; husband on whom
We could forever depend.

The willows weep as the
Stars fall from the sky
I never knew how-so
You’d make me cry.

Your laughter may try to disappear
Your soft voice is forever near.
Buried in a grave your love does live
Memories of a father
Unconditional love forever his gift.

Tears of pain fade to vain
In heavenly light we’ll
Dwell again at His table
In the City of the Divine!

I had to smile when I read your review on my poem, Mother. I surely do have a southern accent. My mother has Alzheimer's disease and slowly dies. Your poem, Dad, breaks my heart. Tears fill my eyes. I,too, lost my father to cancer 3 years ago. My condolence to you Andy Turner. I am so sorry. Your poem is deeply felt and moving...

Many of us can relate to this Andy..
alas my parents left this world while I was not nearby..They lived in Australia while I am living in Croatia..they had sis and bro at their side so that makes it easier on me..however memories do their thing and many-a-time I find myself thinking of the days when life was simple and secure bathed in their love..

Touching poem,
Blessings,

vesna :)

I DON'T THINK WE COULD BEAR THE LOST OF A DEAR DEPARTED ONE...IF WE DIDN'T HAVE THE ASSURANCE THAT...ONE DAY...WE WILL SEE THEM AGAIN. OUR PRESENT KNOWLEDGE OF TIME HEALS...UNTIL THE DAY WHEN 'HIS' ETERNAL LOVE...BREAKS...THE SEAL. THANKS FOR SHARING, ANDY AND MUCH LOVE AND FAITH TO YOU AND YOURS. BLESSINGS...

A heartfelt portrait lovingly painted by a son in whom this stalwart friend and father lives on. I love that picture, too, and your dear Mum's eyes say it all. So alive, so vibrant.

Today, I want to carve
Weeping words in the sky

... such authentic words and emotion here. Faith-filled as well as honouring lament, Andy. xx

I can relate to this Andy. I lost my dad in 2005. The first year is the hardest, especially around the holidays or his birthday. But it does get better as you heal. Patrick

What a tender, loving tribute and by the dates it appears the wound is still fresh. Makes the holidays a tad harsh. Though his years in this realm were ample, it doesn't comfort the loss much.
Wishing you comfort & happiness Andy.
