Photo: View of Hong Kong from Star Ferry

Twenty hundred hours from the thirty-seventh floor
Lights tower over Victoria Harbor. From Kowloon
to Hong Kong, sky scrapers twinkle-twinkle
manmade stars; shining, flickering to the sounds
of the tourism board. Ferries hurry from shore
to shore. Tired workers huddle into queue, surging
for the sliding door; rarely asking for anything more.
Lamborghini’s race at diplomatic immunity speeds.
Proletarian speaking ... once a fishing village,
now a sea of “Chinese Liberation” dreams.

What a powerful comment upon the effects of capitalism. Very well done!

Sad...in some ways...that it has come so far from its humble beginnings...but on the other hand...it is wonderful that there is that place where Chinese liberation dreams have unfolded...

"Proletarian Speaking" has given a flawless diamond glowing star to add light to the life's style of Hong Kong.

I have enjoyed the reading of "Proletarian Speaking".

Sara,
Perfect pictures both, this is how it is in this unique former colony, now a full part of China and yet with its own distinctions and identity...and shortcomings like everywhere else. A fine write.
