I walk a day's walk on my land seeing to the fences that once stood straight. But, now the latch is broken wind and ice have seen to that. I poked at the dirt the spaces where I have planted bulbs and seed amid snow and daily cold air. As the flowers shoot past their labored estate, I mark them all with withered cornstalks to show off their rebirth of life on a savage winter's day.

How familiar this is to me!
And how beautiful a hope is expressed here. We
might apply this very premise to our own lives
when they feel "used up and brown." |
