Thoughts of a miscarriage survivor.

She prays for life, not hers but his.
How could so much go wrong?
The pain won't stop.
She knows all hope may be lost.

NO!
THIS CAN'T BE!
PLEASE GOD NO!

She cries. But no one can understand
The emptiness searing through her soul.
Yes, she is surrounded by people who care,
but for once, just this once,
she has failed and they are no help.

FAILED!

The word rings through her mind.

HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN?
WHAT DID I DO?
I'VE FAILED.

She puts up the brave face that everyone expects.
They all look at her like she is to blame.

THEY CAN'T UNDERSTAND!
THE PAIN!
PLEASE MAKE IT STOP!

She goes through the motions of everyday
a little less alive than old times.
She will never be the same
because of the life she couldn't save.
The life that was hers alone to protect.

I FAILED.
