SHE WAS HIS GIRL

Sometimes our First Love is just not meant to last forever. We need to hold on to the wonderful memories as we forge forward toward a new happiness.

SHE WAS HIS GIRL

She was his girl,
he was her guy.
They weren’t rich,
but they always got by.

They married in her senior year,
soon he’d be asked to give his all.
He was just out of school
and Uncle Sam was about to call.

First came Vietnam,
and then a purple heart,
even before their married life
had a chance to get a start.

She was his girl,
He was her guy.
They weren’t rich,
but still they were getting by.

He came home a hero,
at least in her mind,
then off they went to Michigan,
leaving all they knew behind.

For him it was the assembly line,
while she worked in a bank.
Hard work was an ethic for which,
their parents they could thank.

She was his girl,
he was her guy.
Still they weren’t rich
but they were more than getting by.

It was a simple life
each had learned to enjoy,
first they found a little home,
then along came a little boy.

Work hard and save
till you buy a place of your own.
It was called the American Way
more freedom they’d never known.

She was his girl,
he was her guy.
They had rich feelings,
limited only by the sky.

Next came a little girl,
new goals they now must meet,
their lives were filled with joy,
their family was now complete.

The all-American family,
perfect in every way.
Even in junior high,
she’d dreamed about this day.

She was his girl,
he was her guy.
They were both feeling rich,
with their piece of the American pie.

The years were good to them,
at least for quite a while.
They lived a pleasant life,
always able to smile.

The kids eventually left the nest,
the couple began to roam.
Then before they learned to enjoy it,
she was left all on her own.

She’ll always be his girl,
he’ll always be her guy.
He was called away too soon
and still, she questions why.

Her Life today continues,
memories show the way,
tomorrow the sun will rise
on another brand new day.

Finally she’ll move on,
new love one day will grow.
It’s simply a matter of time,
learning to go with the flow.

She was always his girl,
he was always her guy.
She’d now live with his memory
though often she’ll still cry.

Sweet lady, this is a truly fantastic write. I agree with Chip, the memories you've shared with this and earlier postings speak to the healing you have managed to accomplish and the sweetness of those memories. Nicely done.

Thanks Dick

Unfortunately, that's all too familiar a story. I wish it didn't have to be so. At leasst there will be memories to go with the tears. The sorriest person is thenone who has tears but no memories to sweeten them.
