these old shoes

cleaning out your closets can get someone to wondering,,espeically when their shoes are involved,,,

I decided to clean my closets today
to get rid of old clothes
tattered and worn, outdated

then I went to your side
shirts stained, torn
colors faded, from out
in the weather working
so hard

then I hit the kids room
full blast of energy
toys broken, micro cars
mini men’s detachable parts
forever lost

clothes the dryer keeps shrinking
oh wait, it’s not that at all
it’s just you kids are getting
so tall, soon flying out the nest

after all was done
came the final round
from little feet to big feet
from miles of stones
these shoes have walked
tired souls ripped from being filled
holes tattling no easy path has come
yer’ way, that’s why
these old shoes don’t
fit no more

as I set the boxes on the
back porch, I heard you
scuff, I saw you scowl
you picked thro’ the items
you can’t get rid of this
I heard you yell, whining
down memory lane here
we’d go.

then you came across the box
now it was time for me to scowl
then quickly turn into a smile
as I turned away I could hear
you say,

yea. I guess your right
these old shoes don’t fit
no more
you looked at the dog,

gee, doggy~dog
next thing you
know she’ll be
throwing us out
like these old pair of
shoes, that don’t
fit no more
