Christmas 1953
Jesus, there's no Santa
to get this gift for me--
packaged, under a tree--
all I want for Christmas
is simply my daddy.
Mom says he's in heaven.
Jesus, please set Dad free
to spend Christmas with me.
Jesus, life is empty.
I'm truly in Mom's way ...
she says so every day.
All I want for Christmas
is simply my daddy.
If Dad's stuck in heaven,
that's where I want to be.
Jesus, please come ... take me.
Jesus, I am six now--
it's an eternity--
my tears stream constantly.
All I want for Christmas
is simply my daddy.
There are kids in heaven ...
I'd blend in joyously.
Dad's arms ache to hold me.
All I want for Christmas
is simply my daddy.

Sandra,
This was a real tear jerker. I don't know if it was about you or another, either way, it's just so sad. Maybe you can't have your Daddy, but he's in your heart. For a six year old, that doesn't mean much I suppose. Well written poem.

Sandra,
Heartfelt and poignant, the repetitions enforcing the wishes and longings.

This was a very emotional read, Sandy. I know it was an emotional writing for you too. As always it was extremely well written.
