How many times, Do I have to tell you??

Don't play with your food!

Little Sally sat, sullen as sullen could be,
staring at her plate, full of Veges silently

Everynight the same, and soon the tears would flow
as Mother mashed them up, insisting she would grow

It mattered not, the taste, was bitter as gall
for Mother insisted on boiling, till they shrunk down very small

Sometimes in a paddy, Mother rammed those veges down
redfaced as a beet, she surely went to town

Her excuse was all worn thin, this thing bout growin in all
so sally picked the plate up, and threw it clean against the wall...

This aroused much anger, so she was sent off to her room
no desert tonight, just darkness doom and gloom

Mealtime was a trial, no little tot should face
when she thought about her tea time, her heart began to race

Till one day, as she was walking, past the kitchen sink
she thought of an idea, as she stopped to get a drink

Surely this would be the answer, she could not see why
after all did it matter, how they went down, why not try?

WHY NOT? A GOOD QUESTION INDEED!

When Mother turned her back, to go fetch clothes from the line
Sally grabbed the Veges, off the bench , before they were boiled to brine

At the table that night, the usual serving came
she uttered not a peep, though her kitten did not complain

Underneath the table, she slid those mushy monsters down
the munching from the Kitten, caused Mother to crack a frown

Still she saw them gone, and at last triumphant leered
then all of a sudden it had up and disappeared

Red as a boiled beet, Mothers face had surely gone
she was about to reach across and of the little one scone

Such a hard old Shebat, how could she not at least laugh
for the only thing needed on Sally's plate, was a celery stick for a Staff!

Father laughed out loud, at his daughters precious creation
said "from now on eat them Raw, that is my new proclaimation"

There was no more contest, no more forced eating mush
Raw was the way to go, and her health would be as lush

As the meal she did create, each and every night
So when they say DON"T PLAY WITH you're FOOD...

Tell them it's all bunk, Your creating a culinary Delight!

What a funny write! And that's how I like my vege's too, raw. My mom did the plate fling once. Only it was spaghetti. On the ceiling. She was mad at me and dad. We were good for about a week afterwards. Be well. Patrick

Love it and it reminds me of some of my own childhood memories where my mother (throught necessity with nine kids to feed) would force us to eat things good for us whether we liked them or not.

Ch'erie,

Such a wonderful rendition of what all mothers go through with toddlers. Of course, there is another way. Tell them not eat their vegetables. Children love to not do as they're told! Great write. Enjoyed immensely.
