At curbside
the aging war vet,
braced by cane
and pride,
stiffens his back
and steps in place
to the drumbeat
of the passing parade
for peace
and remembrance.

Gene, another poem I have somehow missed. This work of yours overwhelms me with pride and deep appreciation. Pride in the United States of America. Deep appreciation for every uniformed man and woman that has ever stood in harms way or supported those that stood in harms to preserve our republic. I can vividly see men and women with chests swollen with pride marching in Independence Day parades across the nation, generation after generation. I bid you love and peace my dear friend.
