This poem is more of a free fantasy tha a reflection of personal reality, since I was blessed with the most wonderful mother-in-law imaginable.

I went to visit Mom-in-Law.
I sort of held my breath.
She's sweet and sour,
like lemon tart,
and talks a soul to death.

The topic doesn't matter much,
she'll always have her say.
Her views might be
outrageous, but
you'll hear them, anyway.

Of course she loves the grandkids, but
she cannot stand their noise.
She knows they're there
to trash her house,
(especially those boys.)

She disapproves of everyone,
and everything, as well.
Since F.D.R. dropped
dead, she thinks,
the whole world's gone to hell.

But don't mistake me, I am glad
she puts me to the test.
I'm training now
to be a crank,
and learning from the best!

I have a wonderful relationship with my daughter-in-law, and fair-to -terrific with the sons-in-law. That said, I LOVE this! It is very witty and has the possibility of being absolutely true in some cases.
(pity them) It doesn't have to be an in-law, though; there are crabs in every state of life, very willing to be your example. And hey, you sure "got rhythm!"
