You Left Me

A poem for everyone who may have gone through a bitter or painful breakup. There is hope.

You left me with nothing
But, I had that before
The defeat is all yours
I’m not bitter or sore
With feet firmly planted
And the wind at my back
I will walk toward the sun
Finding all that you lack
You called me coldhearted
But, my heart is warm
I’m back where I started
Where new feelings form
The lessons you taught me
I learned each one well
I am so much stronger
Than the day I fell
You left me your shadow
As you said goodbye
Something to remind me
How you wouldn’t try
I had been your only
When ‘twas best for you
You left me with nothing
Love you never knew.

One must have a sense of gratitude for the lessons taught or bitterness will rule the heart. Echoes a woman's strength. Very fine, Jill!

Jill, now and then you come across like a wounded hummingbird which one wish could hold between the hands to warm that trembling little thing.
A kind of tender sadness is the after taste of it.
