This is a difficult weekend for me. As many of you recall, I lost my Dad on June 22, a year ago. Sunday -- the 21st -- marks the first Father's Day without him and of course, the 22nd, is the year anniversary of his passing. I share this poem for Dad and dedicate it to anyone who may be feeling the same way I do, this Father's Day weekend!

Dear Dad, I think of you, today
And wish you were nearby
There’s much I really want to say
And tears I need to cry
Your words, Dad’s Day, a year ago
Still echo in my heart
I love you more than you could know
Although, we are apart
I often feel you on the wind
I see you in reflection
The memories will never end -
Each gives my life direction
The sun is not nearly as bold
Now, shining ‘cross each mile
The shadows seem bitterly cold
Without your precious smile
For some time now, Dear Dad, I’ve known
This weekend would be tough
O’er the last year, I know I’ve grown
Though, sometimes, not enough
The memories now outweigh the pain
I know I can subsist
But, Dad, words could never explain
The many ways you’re missed
I know you’re in a better place
Where doves and angels dwell
Protected by Heavenly grace
And worth too great to tell
A place that I shall only hope
I’m, one day, meant to see
Dad, please grant me the will to cope,
Your "little girl," eternally.

All little girls needs a Dad, and all Dads need their little girls because without them home would be like an empty nest.
The bond between them doesn't come unglued even after one of them is not here anymore.
Great tribute.

Your daddy is smiling down on you, Jill, and he lives on in you. You've penned a worthy tribute to him! Very well penned, Jill; brava!
(Know the pain myself; with Father's Day coming up, I am missing my big, strong daddy really strongly now!)
(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Burleson, Karen Lynn. :( >tears! < |
