My first introduction to poetry in the 6th grade.

Old Man of the Sea
There was an old man of the sea
who fought with a tiny bee
They put up a fight
Until it turned night
He soon had to flee
For the bump on his knee
He has lost his fight
soon making a flight
As he returned to the sea
Carolee Dennis-Woosley
1967
Our instructer gave us "Old man of the Sea" to practice for our first limerick I will never forget this. Do any others have such memories?

When I was a young girl we were encouraged to read all the great poets, our teacher often read to us in class. We girls enjoyed it, but the boys seemed bored!

Carolee, I did limericks too, but I can't remember them. Very cute!
