In hushed silence a word is heard...

This was designed to make you think, what word could possibly be so important that all want an answer? So important, it was heard over a crowd through a whisper... And, no I am not Superwoman do not want any misunderstandings with the use of the former picture so I changed it to myself. :)

 Dare to Read

The crowd noisily carries on

No-one takes notice until…

The whisper

A hushed silence falls

Like a tuning fork

Clearing the blocks

From their ears

Straining to hear

One word was said

So low it was barely

Audible…

But heard none-the-less

All seek looking around

An audience waiting

Waiting for the jumper

To make the fall

Curiosity of the one

Who spoke this one word

All now looking to each other

Seeking for an answer for the one who knows

Gritting their teeth

Waiting as though an incision was made

Into their flesh

To see what will be revealed

Restless angst

Over this one word

Unable to control

This situation like a mob out of control

That word, that one word

Piercing the ground

As that of lightening

Darkening the target it hit

A carousel of faces

Turning seeking

Unable to find

That gold ring that word

The maitre d' stands still

Frozen unable to move

All eyes are upon him

Knees knocking in fright

Looking to him as though to say

Jump! Take the plunge!

Beckoning him

To his death

It was that word!

With nowhere to turn

It was his decision alone

There might be one inescapable word that grabs everyone's attention only the people will know what that word is.

I like a riddle, but not only a riddle you gave me a lot of visuals here to this old mind. I know the word, its God. Everyone wants to know about God.

I concur with Gail, it could be a number of words and there are so many. Ok Lilly, will you give us all the word in the end? :)

One word could be many things, money, wealth, God, death. I believe all those words would get attention.

And the lady Lily gives us a riddle, to figure out the word that captured so many's attention. You amaze me with your ability to give such diversity in your writing.

I bow and tip my hat to you

Excellent drama within the borders of this well-written and, as I said, dramatic poem, Carol. I don't need to know the end result to understand what can deepen fear into the hearts of mankind; it is enough to look into the eyes. I would never yell "jump," although as I stood and watched I might think to myself, you have come this far, but take yet another five minutes to completely clear your mind that this is the correct course of action for you.

Just like the crowd, now we want to know the answer as well
You've made us part of the flabbergasted crowd.
as if we stand in the middle of them, looking around to each other to find the answer

Brilliant Carolee, you've totally drawn us into it.

The crowd doesn't seem to much help at this point to the poor soul but a thoughtful piece. Perhaps they would interpret the onlookers that way and perhaps those below want to see that, excitement or something. Thought inspiring piece.

stay well and keep writing
