This very simple poem about Reasons was given a mention in a competition because of its final message which was the main reason for writing my novels.

 Reasons

Does there have to be a reason

For every single act,

Does there have to be a reason

For every single fact

I want to climb that mountain

Just because it’s there,

I want to walk instead of ride,

Even though I’ve got the fare

And I’ve never heard a dead man talk,

But I know we never die,

And I’ve never seen a flying saucer,

But I know they’re in the sky

And I want to believe the day will come,

When we’ll be a race of tan,

With no one black and no one white,

Just one big happy clan

And there really is a reason

For these things which I impart,

Nothing you can see or hear,

Just a pulsing in my heart.
