Collect All the Babies

The idea for the poem came from watching a Women's program on TV. They had a lot of babies on stage and they were asking the world to look at the future – look at the babies.

COLLECT ALL THE BABIES

Collect all the babies on the face of the earth,

And all the women about to give birth,

Muster all the leaders of every nation,

And insist they look on the next generation,

Ask them seriously about all the dissention,

About wars, weapons and disarmament intention,

Make them believe there is only one way to act,

That is, settling differences with words and facts,

Surely, the vision of children and mother to be,

should unfurl a sense of reason, for leaders to see

That power is not everything, too much will destroy

Precious lives, with the God-given right to live and enjoy.

You certainly are sending a powerful message that I agree totally with. The other side of the picture is the burgeoning population growth nearing seven billion that is unsustainable in nearly 30% of the world. In spite of well-meaning people that you and I are included in, we cannot feed or provide fresh water for the starving and malnourished everywhere. There must be some sensible approach to population reduction or we may be doomed for dirtying our nest.
