For me His name is Yahweh,
Ancient god in my contemporary world,
But others see him differently,
Led by their traditions,
Much the same as me.
Why then, do we quarrel,
Sanguine sacrifice
In the name of god?
Is this a planet of fools,
Who when commanded to love,
Choose ritual rather than notion,
And look for their own kind
To fulfill the measure
Of their decree.
If they are different
Lock the dungeon gate;
Perhaps some time in darkness
Will make them see the light,
Or maybe a public flogging,
Or televised beheading will do.
God in any form
Expects goodness
From men of every sort,
And if it is vengeance that you seek,
And hatred that you feel,
Simply because the ritual is different,
And the vestments of a another color,
Perhaps you should examine your soul
And consider the measure of your existence,
For you have taken another trail
And destruction is your end.
I feel the centuries merging
And the ancients are so very near,
Urging us to a proper conclusion,
Hopeful for lessons learned
On the backs of their regret.
It is insufficient to ride the rail,
And let others step forward
For virtue;
In the soul of every man
Lies a meter,
Recording consideration, conclusion,
And action most of all.
The burden of mankind is upon us
And history tells the tale,
Of civilizations one after the other
Who denied goodness before they failed.
Our priorities have become so skewed
And we are so precariously perched,
And the only answers that we have,
Are a short walk down to the corner,
Just inside the church.

This is an inspiring poem-- one of your best. So hard to find religious poetry that's not sappy... yours is excellent. The font's a bit hard to read-- but I think it's my computer settings.
Take care, and God bless! --Charlie |

Yahweh is a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger and rich in faithful love and truth (Ex 34:6) In Exodus 3:14 scripture speaks that Yahweh is Israel's Covenantal God. Yahweh literally means breath. He is my breath of life. Your writing pushes one's thinking to search for truth.

It always has confused me why some say that certain religions aren't Christian... to me, the definition of Christian is one who lives to pattern his life after the life of Jesus Christ... yet I know so many who profess to be Christian and yet their acts are so divisive... I still don't understand it.
Your poem speaks volumes on the world right now...
