Who are these in our nocturnal dreams
Who threaten all;
A nimble wit our only defense,
As we are pursued
By those more sinister,
And plan our escape

To no avail,
As seemingly, they perpetrate evil
Without provocation or penalty.
Who are they,
And what is their cause
To incite this heart-pounding terror?

Do we live our lives
On multiple planes,
But feel consciousness only here on earth?
Sadly, though,
Our mindful lives are tainted
By these deadly scenarios,
Permeating the fabric and flow
Of our daily existence,
Leaving us unsettled
And questioning,
And wondering if we are alone,
So thoroughly endangered
By these unknown ghouls of the night.

So to, however, do we see glory
In our night,
With kindly spirits taking hold,
Stepping from the shadows
In the time of greatest need,
Calming us,
Rescuing us from the brink of destruction,
Showing us once again
That there is balance in our world,
And as our eyes flash open
To the blackness of night,
We are once again able to say;
Roll over and go back to sleep:
It was all just a dream…

Very moody poem, now I'm not sure if I want to go to sleep, lol! Just kidding! You really lit up the senses in this, bringing a sense of immediacy to it. Nice work.
