The heat of the day
Has started to wear off
As we descend
The steps to
A dirt path
That weaves along the river.
The rushing water flows
Smoothly and symphonically
Blending with the sounds of
Birds chirping and
The sweet perfume of pine.
On this walk
Imprints of shoes
Have been buried
Beneath layers of desert sand
Blown in by Southwest winds.
In a clearing,
Up on the crest of a hill,
There are five deers grazing.
In this moment of
Stillness and reflection,
I realize beauty and peace
Abound in nature.

| Beautiful, smooth, seamless, and I could almost smell the pine, listen to the chirping birds. The poem takes a turn in L11, and the imagery explodes. You have captured the moment better than a wide angle zoom lens could, and that is poetry of top drawer! |

My father used to tell me, "Stay close to nature and you will stay close to God." Your poem reminds me of this, Marie. Thank you. Love and best wishes,
