Once upon a teenaged dream
A lifetime ago when we were young
We did some exploring and discovered each other
But we got lost before we were done
So close yet so far for such a long time
Our lives progressed differently
But so many times in so many ways
I heard your heart calling to me
But I belonged to another and he was my whole world
I'd made promises I had to keep
And the funny thing is, as much as I love him
I couldn't stay away from you in my sleep
I'd dream of your lips and your touch I'll admit
So vivid I'd wake tasting your kiss
But sometimes I'd dream only of you making me laugh
And I'd cry for the laughter we'd missed
But for all of my dreams, I know it was best
We were both given gifts precious beyond compare
And though neither of us would trade the lives that we have
Neither can I pretend I don't care
So I hope you'll think of me when you hear those old songs
Or wake up hot in the middle of the night
And you remember my hands on your moist, heated skin
Embracing seventeen with all of our might
Because I'll see your face when I close my eyes
And sometimes I might even pretend
That it's you in my arms when I make love every night
To the man with whom life I will spend
So over the years as the memories fade
Keep one thought tucked safely away
No matter what you do or where you may go
Someone thinks of you every single day
And maybe someday when we're old and alone
We'll find each other once again
And we'll do more exploring and maybe discover
It's not too late for us to begin
