The Big Lie

One of the poems featured in True Blue Forever

Everyone’s impressed with the Big Shot

Wants to be your friend

What a tough guy, what a joke

It’s all just pretend

Gotta keep up the act

For the old man’s image

Can’t let them see it’s all a lie

That comes in an easy to swallow size

You remember the last time you were happy

You see a girl with red hair and laughing eyes

Smiling at you

But you screwed that up too

Too stupid to even know what a treasure you lost

Until you see her smile

At someone else

And you can only blame yourself

They can keep the applause

And the plastic friends with extended hands

They can have it all for just one more time to see

Her smile and know it’s only for me

Very nice. Can't wait to reaad the book, True Blue Forever. You're poems are coaxing me to go back to my old ones and to write some new ones.
