Thank goodness there are many types
Of social contact then there ever once was.
Many people feel this new social media
Is tearing relationships apart.
But for the home & bed ridden
It is a life line and saver of many lost & broken hearts.
To imagine a time when contact was rare
Feeling all alone and isolated
Which must have felt like falling into a deep
Dark hole of despair.
To be sick and in pain
More days than naught,
To be able to reach out to friends and family
Feeling a warm flush of kindness or maybe
Even a grin.
Heals the inner spirit
Enough to have the want
To see another day.
So all this new technology
Really can boil down to
Saving a life or broken heart
So the chronically ill can soldier on knowing
That the contact no matter how small
Helped to even out the evil of pain
That could have robbed us of a brand new day.

What a special insight for me reading this.
Since encountering a woman with no arms and legs- (see my blog "Edited Blog") I have been pondering how life must be for her. The on line world I find too often distracts me from the real world and people with whom I should interact, but it certainly has brought me some of the most precious and enduring friendships.
Thanks so much for sharing this.

| Sage words and thought provoking lines. You are perhaps correct in the potential impact of technology especially for those hard hit by physical limitations or other reasons. Even if these brief contacts can alter ones thoughts or beliefs...it can potentially injure them if a relationship develops that can do harm...it can also be a lifesaver and lifechanger to and for them. There is no other better way to make contacts as available now as compared to way back then when we were younger. Excellent work and I can relate to this in particular. Thank you, Lisa. |
