Elusive Sleep
Sleep. It eludes me,
chased away by endless pain...
I lay upon my bed,
but the thoughts move ever clearer
through my head. Pictures, memories, chasing each other around in the playground of my mind.
I sit up..the moon is creeping across the night sky..
I creep slowly along with her.
Sleep. Always teasing me.
My eyes drift slowly shut,
but you are there,
ever smiling in my thoughts,
and again sleep dashes off.
Laughing at me, daring me
to chase him, knowing I am too
weak to catch him.
And as I stare in hopelessness
at the words upon a page,
the pictures on the screen, or the moon
inching its way across the night...
the torture ends as I slip off into a void of blackness.
Laying my battle-tired body against the bed.

You've captured the very long moments, Sylence, and done it well. I, too, like "...the moon inching its way across the night..."
Best regards,

I think I have been there so many times while that same moon creeps slowly across the sky. Excellent work, Sylence.

"...the moon is creeping across the sky...I creep slowly along with her,"
lends a feminine touch to the already softly evocative lines.
Nice work! |
