My twin brother was lost in a war in the 1980's

The photo shows
Two boys in matching clothes
Me, in front, surprise
You close behind

“The twins” we were
Not ‘close’ in any way
But brothers. 18 years,
Not close, and brothers still

You sailed South in ‘81.
At 42, I walk my sons
Through winter fields
And think of you, 18.

Never close, but closer now.
As I walk, slowly on, alone,
Along the path that leads
Straight on towards,

The place where I will
See you once again and
Take the piss, not ‘close’, you see.
My boys are following me.
