This Is The Plight Of Far Too Many Discarded Canines In Our Nation;
Just Picture Your Own Dog Having To Endure Such Fear And Isolation
“Desperado, oh, you ain't gettin' no younger,
Your pain and your hunger, they're drivin' you home;
And freedom, oh freedom, that's just some people talkin,'
Your prison, is now walkin’ through this world, all alone.”
The Eagles: Desperado
The second week of our ‘Saving Shadow Campaign’
This outcast has endured so much cruelty and pain
He was horridly abused, then dumped on the street
At first, he sought kindness from those he did meet
But even people with their own dogs, were cruel to him
He was chased out of their yards, by curses in the wind
Then, he was pursued by animal control, and the police
He kept running and searching for kindness on the street
Finally, he found a man who was kind, and he timidly entered his home
But he panicked and felt threatened – he fled, and once again roamed
I have followed him under backyard decks, and into musty old sheds
I have sadly watched him slip back into the shadows, filled with dread
Just last night, his great hunger prompted him, to enter one of my traps
But once again he panicked, and he bull-dozed his way out, just like that
But a marvelous thing occurred, after he freed himself from that trap
Instead of racing into the night, he stayed right there, and took a nap
Like many outcasts before him like Jack, Trucker, Hank, and Carrie
A tiny spark of trust has now ignited, and is now, very slowly, emerging
Now, residents in the area say that he has started following my truck
I am not giving up on him, poor Shadow deserves some decent luck
It took an entire month of pursuit, for our Little Jack, to trust once again
Today, he is now happy and loved; his great suffering came to an end
And hopefully soon, Shadow too, will trust me enough, to let me help him
Like every other discarded street orphan, I believe Shadow deserves to win
Saving One Outcast Won’t Change This Sad Old World,
But The World Will Change, For The One Being Saved.
