-What The Traveler In My Last Poem Sadly Faces Today-
“It makes no sense to spend tens of millions of dollars
To kill predators, especially in the way that it's done,
To the extent that it is now being done across America,
When it can have cascading effects through the ecosystem,
Unintended consequences, and even non-targeted victims.”
Bradley Bergstrom
Professor of Wildlife Biology,
Valdosta State University
While some of us advocate for animals
Our ‘leaders’ spend millions, on murder
To appease greedy special interest groups
And public outrage is not even being heard
Wildlife haters in Congress are now busy
Gutting the entire Endangered Species Act
Wolves were taken off, and are being killed
And now, Pacific Sea Lions, are under attack
We’re horridly condoning a bloody killing frenzy
Government snipers and trappers are everywhere
Helicopter Hunting, Leg Snares, Toxic Poisonings
All types of earthly life, are now in danger out there
The Sacramento Bee newspaper has published an investigation
Of all the government-sanctioned animal deaths in our nation
We’re now killing everything, from our eagles to family dogs
And not one nature or animal lover should be filled with elation
Traps, deadly poisons, and bounty hunters in the sky
Are horrendously killing bears, bobcats, birds, and pets
This has been going on for awhile, now it’s getting worse
And people like me see no signs of any public outrage yet
Wake Up America, before only America’s zoos will contain wildlife
And man’s best friend, is now in great danger, on outings to the woods
Hundreds of family pets have been maimed, and mutilated, and murdered
Even eagles are dying; all of this carnage, supposedly for ‘The Public Good’
This Three-Part Newspaper Article Is Linked Below;
Their Horrendous Findings Include The Following:
With bullets, steel traps, wire snares, and deadly poisons, government employees and contractors kill over 2.5 million animals a year now, and they have already killed more than 50,000 animals that were not a threat or a problem to anyone - including federally protected golden and bald eagles; more than 1,100 family pets; and several species of animals that are now considered to be imperiled or nearing extinction by biologists.
