“It's the circle of life, and it moves us all,
Through despair and hope, through faith and love,
Until we find our place, on the path unwinding.”
Elton John, From The Lion King
I was once again camping, out back
And I was about to doze off to sleep
When tap, tap, tap came the rain above
Soon unleashing a flood of memories for me
Suddenly, I was back in my old childhood yard
Now camping in a homemade tent, with Mousie
I was about five years old, on a grand adventure
The tap, tap, tap of the rain on the tarp so exciting
Then, it was on to camping with the Cub and Boy Scouts
Each camping trip, traveling further and further from home
First in a tiny pup tent, than moving on to large canvas tents
The tap, tap, tap of the rain on these tents at night, I loved so
Eventually, I was camping on my own up in the great northwood
A place that I soon grew to love, both in the daylight, and at night
I’d often take one of my dogs with me, like I had with little Mousie
And the tap, tap, tap of the rain on my tent, still filled me with delight
And then along came Hurricane Katrina, and my pet rescue efforts
Camping in my old tent and then in my truck, each and every night
Right next to me was my new friend Tater, a canine storm survivor
Who appreciated my company, after his horrendous hurricane plight
And now here I was, once again camping in my yard, with a wild dog
It seems that life has now brought me full circle, back to my own yard
The tap, tap, tap, of the rain on the tarp roof of the kennel, so marvelous
I was now back doing what I had loved as a child, after traveling so very far
I was once again camping, out back,
And I was just about to doze off to sleep;
When tap, tap, tap came the rain from above,
Soon unleashing a flood of fond memories for me.
