On my way to visit Rags at the vet’s

Yet another lost soul on a busy road

This time, no helicopters or reporters

This little lost soul wandered all alone

Yet, her story is the same as Rags

Lost or abandoned by her family

Exhausted, dehydrated, terrified

Few noticed her, they couldn’t see

We have now received over 200 requests

To adopt Rags, since he was on the News

I doubt that we’ll find very many wanting her

The blindness in our nation makes me blue

I’ve already asked some people who wanted Rags

If they’d consider adopting this sweet little orphan

“No, we saw little Rags on TV, and we only want him”

The self-centeredness of we human beings, never ends

I very sadly doubt that any of the 200 people who wanted Rags

Will go down to their local shelters, to adopt another dog in need

There are thousands of these little lost souls, searching for a friend

Why so few are willing to help them, brings such utter sadness to me

I just read and article stating that conservatism is hardwired into our genes. This means that we are not compassionate, but rather very self-centered and try to get over whenever we can. Those so-called 200 Angels are only looking to be able to brag to their friends and neighbors relatives and anyone else they can collar that they “adopted” the dog shown on the TV–their 15 min. of fame. After all, if the adopted just any old dog down at the pound, they would be considered average and not the heroes that they are.

Don't cry any more about them. Keep up your good work. Karma will work its way with them and they will get their reward.

It sounds like many people want Rags for the wrong reasons. If they want only the Rags they saw on TV then what if he does not impress them as much when they take him home? Sorry folks a dog is NOT a rag! Dogs have feelings and compassion like nobodies business. Amen!

How sad because of fame by T.V.

and news reports that people are

only then inspired to want a creature

that was dumped. You are correct Mr. Ed

People should instead go to the poor

creatures who sit in a cage with little

human touch sadly waiting to be loved

(speaking of shelters not loving homes like yours)
