Deaths Soft Hush
On velvet feet he walks; without sound, yet one can feel his approach near.
Shadows dance on the hearts narrow walls; unknowing, but know that he approaches and life moves on without fear.
The sleeping heart beats; the winds of change do they rage.
Since coming forth in birth, he has walked in silence along life’s stage.
We hear him not as each night eclipses into the sleeping day.
Yet he is always near walking on soft feet, waiting for the coming change.
He never sleeps and with open arms he awaits each soul’s destiny.
I’ve seen his approach many times; I felt his cold presence in this life of mine.
I’ve watched eyes once bright fade to shades of gray losing forever their sight.
Yet fear not his hushed approach even though in the end he always wins.
For though I may be weak…I know HE who hath ordained this day is strong.
Though I may weep in the night; spirit against spirit will continue the good fight.
Therefore live this day as if there be no tomorrow.
Love, give and live all your days without remorse or sorrow.
So whoever ye be when thy day comes and you and you alone hear the soft hush of death at your door.
Fear not his footfall, nor the chill of his touch; for it is by faith in Christ who set the captives free to live in His love forevermore.
