When Innocent Faces Meet

If what I wish for could come true
You’d know my loyalty is as strong as the loyalty felt by you;
You’d understand that I, too, pray for peace,
A time when fighting will forever cease.

If what I wish for could come true
You’d know my wish is more than a prayer that we endure;
If what I wish for could come true
You’d know, like you, I wish the world would find a permanent cure;
For we are two innocent faces when we meet,
Each on a mission to defeat,
Neither of us will succumb to pressure or to heat,
Neither of us will stop until our mission is complete.

If you could look into my eyes and I looked into yours
We’d see mirrored reflections confirming, that of our stance, we're sure,
If you could look into my heart, see the pounding and feel my pain,
You’d need not question the origin for your feelings must be much the same.
We know what we must do; we know what is our aim
But, when innocence turns into ashes, from hurting you can't refrain.

What is it that we will be leaving history as a legacy?
I hope much more than committed people, fighting with tenacity;
What kind of world will our children have when the battling is through?
A better one I pray; if what I wish for will come true .

I hold to hope, which is my guiding force,
I travel, as a guided missile, on my chartered course,
But I can't deny the trepidation I never felt before,
I can't deny my prayers each night, wondering what lies in store.
We are two innocent faces in opposition when we meet,
Each on a mission to defeat;
Neither of us will succumb to pressure or to heat,
Neither of us will stop until our mission is complete.

If what I wish for could come true
I’d wish the people of the world would learn something new;
I’d wish the world could be seen with a perspective that provides a different view,
Where you could live in peace with me, and I, in peace, with you.
I’d wish for a world where I could open up my doors and welcome you inside;
A world where we could close the gaps that, so far, only divide;
If what I wish could really come to be---
There would not be hostility; but a world where all are free.

There would not be hostility; but a world where all are free. This sums up this fine essay on the human condition. Very well done.
