Schools Out

it's that time of the year
the letting out of school for a few months
kids are happy
teachers and assorted back-up help
are probably even happier than the kids are
I remember when I was in school
couldn't wait for summer vacation to come
Eh, I'm older now
doesn't seem to matter one way or the other anymore
least it shouldn't
I wonder why it does
and why it makes me sad?

Surprise at the end of this one. The acknowledgement and response of your last six words carry with them the summation of the human dilemma. Excellent. ~~ Diana

those were good days and i don't know about you but i wished i had stayed in school and had the memories of a prom and graduation instead of going through the 'grind' of having to acquire my GED later on. thanks for share

Jerry, I can relate, I have just finished up work for the summer at the college where I work...I love my summers kinda off..
Here comes the beach, and relaxation.

Peace, love and light,

Ah, summertime, the time of swimming (my absolute favorite thing to do as a kid) and gaspacho with extra extra onions! Ahhh.

I see summer as somewhat of a logistical nightmare, but, i look forward to it.

Christmas Break then Spring Break and finally Summer Break. I feel cheated. I've been retired so long I can't remember what it was like to look forward to a break.

Enjoyed your thoughts on the subject, however. Dick

I am told that once retired, every day is a vacation day, hence no special significance. That was always my favorite day of the year, better than Christmas. It meant 3 months off! Perhaps you should plan a little vacation. There is something to be said for anticipation. Patrick

I hear ya....those years went by way too fast...although it didn't seem like it when I was a kid....deep inside I still feel the excitement of that last day of school before summer vacation...

If we could only capture stolen moments of youth that were exciting. The ones with the fond memories. I think it pains all of us wishing to recapture a few moments of it. A little jealous we can't have some of it back, at least I am :)

Yesterday when I was out and about I watched as children happily ran home knowing no more school work and summer excitement was ahead.

Thank you that was wonderful and pictorial written to give me a lovely view. Sigh...

You're probably suffering the malady of "thinking," given the cells responsible for same are stubborn as hell for those who stay conscious and pick up a book instead of a 9 iron when certain years come around.
