hot, hazy days
not a cloud anywhere
if there was a breeze
I couldn't feel it
standing in the shade
five degrees cooler
maybe
dirt collected on my face
even standing still
not one bud could be seen
on any tree branch
the look on everyone's face
showed not to expect rain
old Dominecker rooster
in the backyard
feet loosening the dirt
looking for something to eat
but nothing was there
airless and motionlessness
were the sweltering nights
after sweltering, scorched nights
I put in hours
dreaming of a cool sanctuary
from those hot Arkansas days
not thinking it could be worse
in hot, muggy south Louisiana

Jerry I still love the heat so much more than the cold...call me crazy.
I have to agree with Jane, a "Norman Rockwell" moment.

Struck me like a black and white photo with the only the chicken and its actions in color. Desolate teachings you've absorbed and converted well.

you've reminded me of a time in Havasu Arizona - 100 degrees after the sun set and stayed that hot all night - thats why I love the northwest, always cool at night no matter how hot the day...- love that old fan pic - had one of those types once as a kid.

Ah yes, I remember those days as well growing up in southern California. How much fun it was to run through a sprinkler to cool off to avoid the heat and humidity. They were unbearable many times!

Great visuals Jerry, I loved it!
