why does my heart skip a beat when I see OLE Glory fly
could it be that the sound of it snapping in the wind sings to me
or is it the rush of pride I feel seeing those patriotic primary colors of red and blue
the red stripe denotes in my heart a visual depiction of courage
and blood shed in and for this land of the free and home of the brave
a reminder to all of what has gone before and what has be, to remain free
yes my heart skips a beat when OLE Glory fly's, or at times I shed tears in pain
when she is at half mass .. for lost loved one's who will never come back
with pride she drapes her men and women of combat in a protective cloak
bringing them home like a shield of old, worn over a warriors assaulted breast
her blank white stripe shows our endeavor to leave room to rewrite our
living working ever changing constitution and amendments of democracy
she is a shining pristine pennant of our pure hope and faith in all we can be
her field of blue, our shining oceans surrounding us cradling us as a mother
each star on her ocean of blue, imparts we are one from the many states shown
each state sovereign yet our true baptismal in fire name speaks, of complete unity
for we are, The United States of America

| The old flag has lost some luster over the years but it gives me a very good feeling, an optimistic one, when I read such words from freedom-loving patriotic souls. |

| A beautiful tribute to our flag and one of the greatest reasons for our patriotism! It took a lot of blood sweat and tears to raise that flag and it should always be respected and held high! Thanks Cheryl! |
