Written for the woman I love
|
Once upon an island lost
Where I alone did stay,
I strove to find myself one night,
Where the jungles lay.
The search went slow and nearly failed
For my hope was frail and small,
Yet alas I spied a man alone
Beside a waterfall.
He sat upon a mossy rock
Where the water softly slept,
And gazed long upon himself
Where his reflection kept.
Having found myself at last
I led him to a bluff,
where down below the sea-waves crashed
And the wind the water roughed.
Together we looked upon the sea
With the full moon to the west,
Darkness lay about us both
Where night had taken nest.
Then far below we saw a light
Where a ship was sailing out,
A girl was standing on the deck
But couldn't hear our shout.
It seemed while I for I had searched
Our rescue passed us by,
And now we stood alone once more
Just myself and I.
For long we watched the moon-lit sea
Upon that rocky height,
Where hope was on the horizon
And then sailed out of sight.
We slept upon the bluff that night
Where the wind swept off the waves,
And in the morning woke to find
Alas! that we were saved!
A ship bobbed up and down below
Where sea licked at her sides,
And on the bow we saw you there
With caution in your eyes.
We gave a wave and you waved back
And called for us to come,
And as we swam out to your ship
I knew that I was One.

What does it truly take for a man to find himself? To be totally alone, isolated from all other feelings, people or stimuli. And out of the darkness comes a maiden so clearly made for you, made for "us": myself and I.
Your descriptions work wonders on a tempered heart, and this woman you love should feel fair and confident in herself; you obviously see her that way.
She is a lucky woman to have such endearing, respectful thoughts written about her. |

| What a great way to meet and become one. I like the wording of this and ships that pass in the night never stray and this is a beautiful tribute to your wife.********** |
