A poem based on a picture at Minds and Musings Writers Group -- The Pic Challenge - Warrior's Lust
http://groups.msn.com/MindsMusings/yourwebpage.msnw

The battle fierce

Is now done

Awash with pain

I hear the drums

Warriors roughly chant

Of fallen foes

And cherished friends

Songs of desperate woes

Against my tears

I shut my eyes

Still I see him

And hear his cries

My lover sweet

His body there I found

Amongst our company

On the blood soaked ground

A sorrow so deep

An emptiness in my soul

My heart ripped out

And there remains a hole

My eyes are shut

But pain with me is not done

My ears I cannot close

I listen to the drums

Interesting. Marion Zimmer Bradley said that most of "The Heritage of Hastur" came to her in dreams, and it is her best book (in my opinion). Unfortunately, my dreams are much more mundane.
