(A 9/11 Poem)

A LULLABY FOR NEW YORK
8th Dec '01 Sara L. Russell

[Revised 11th Sep '03]

Dark shadows swirl their way into Cabrini Boulevard,
The pigeons rise to scatter as they slowly pass along,
The pretzel seller finds his eyes are misted, caught off-guard.
A subway busker starts to play a doleful Elvis song.

East-Eighty-Third is humming with a thousand urban dreams,
Cold fantasies unfold within the petals of the night;
September ghosts are set adrift on ectoplasmic streams,
With hosts of angels following, in garlands of white light.

Sleep soundly now, New York, let bitterness be washed away,
let sleep's dark poppies dissipate all agonies of mind.
Sentinel wings will guide your mourning dreams towards the day
when sanity will reign over the ways of humankind.

Beautiful prayer bringing a sigh as one waits for the morning light to wash away all the forelorn tears and begin again anew. Strong sentiments to share for all, may we never forget....

Be always safe,
Karen

This sounds like a Big Apple lover's expression. The author of this poem did honor the city. "A Lullaby for New York" is everything a poem should be.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful and profound art.

In appreciation,

Sara -

my heart breaks anew
in a moment of silence
for all those who died

Agree with Regis: would that this would come to pass. Our angry, apathetic society doesn't seem to give a rip, unless it's convenient or for their own selfishness ..

Powerfully penned, especially the last two lines. Thank you for remembering -

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
