Dad, where’s mum gone?

"I’m afraid I don’t know honey"

Dad where’s mum gone?

She’s not been here for a whole week

Dad what’s wrong with mum?

I saw her crying this morning

Dad what’s wrong with mum?

She said her life was boring

Dad why’s mum packed her bags?

Is she going on holiday?

Dad why’s mum packed her bags?

And why has she nothing to say?

Dad why doesn’t mum smile anymore?

Why aren’t we going with her?

Dad why doesn’t mum smile anymore?

Who’s that man I saw with her?

You have clearly defined a heartrending tragedy, through a child's eyes, and in so few sentences...
Great stuff, Andrea!

Ouch this one cuts to the bone and hurts like hell as any parent who's ever gone through a divorce can surely tell you. In this child's innocence speaks the wisdom of the world and I will not lie it brought a heavy sadness to my heart as I remembered having to say goodbye to my own little girl when she was only five. I still feel I made the right decision but it does not make the pain or the guilt any easier to live with. Very just write.
