Autumn's Dance

Spring and fall were my mothers favorite seasons, and it is evident in this poem dated in 1982

My eyes
Are artists of my brain
To paint my mind
With every stroke of wave
Among the clouds
Blooming on an azure sky.

The sway of trees
The blowing leaves
And all that moves
In Nature's grace -
With color and shape
That make
My heart vibrate
With applause.

Over there
300 yards or less
Is where
The wind's a play
In golden leaves
That flip and flounce
At bay
In a breeze
That breathes free.

Were I only
20% the size of me
Hugging a bough
In their midst
I'd sing a solo
To the accompaniment
Of the rhythms
The joys cascading
In cadence
Of the symphony
Swelling from Autumn's dance.

But I am not there~
I'm here
Thrilling, watching,
From my window.

Katie:

Your mother was a simple person who took very little to be happy. Her trusting nature of that everything could be beautiful is written in her verse. She was also a very giving person. At times, she faced disappointments in her life that only she knows, and she puts them down into her verse but did not tell.

It is only through her verse that you will understand what life was like for her. We normally take friends and relatives for granted for being there, but have we thought about whether or not we were there for them when they needed us?

I truly miss my Dad. Even now from time to time, I took out his photo. and thought about the way it was.

This is so beautiful and expressive. I love Autumn and it's captured so perfectly in these words. Thanks for sharing, April :-)
