Our REM did a song by the same name.
Your work is is good. But as a new poet? Maybe REM can help show
you the poetic way. Good work, yet needs less haste and more thought!
Nightswimming deserves a quiet night
The photograph on the dashboard, taken years ago,
Turned around backwards so the windshield shows
Every streetlight reveals the picture in reverse
Still, it's so much clearer
I forgot my shirt at the water's edge
The moon is low tonight
Nightswimming deserves a quiet night
I'm not sure all these people understand
It's not like years ago,
The fear of getting caught,
Of recklessness and water
They cannot see me naked
These things, they go away,
Replaced by everyday
Nightswimming, remembering that night
September's coming soon
I'm pining for the moon
And what if there were two
Side by side in orbit
Around the fairest sun?
That bright, tight forever drum
Could not describe nightswimming
You, I thought I knew you
You, I cannot judge
You, I thought you knew me,
This one laughing quietly underneath my breath
Nightswimming
The photograph reflects,
Every streetlight a reminder
Nightswimming deserves a quiet night, deserves a quiet night

| "the cargo of night as it lumbers through my bedroom at night," draws me into the energy of the darkness and the plunges me into the release of gravity in "heavy waters," rewarding me, finally, with the "unencumbered" me. Awesome. |

| Well, for me, unlike my sis, this one shed pounds from my shoulders from the get-go, though the poem is heavy with atmosphere, a sleepy peace-- soporific almost-- that you can physically feel. I felt myself step into the water, and I had a very relaxing time there, until I got to the shallow breathing line, and subsequently looked down, and saw that I was wading in your fluid dreams, and felt ashamed of my own nakedness. (Don't look, okay?--grabbing a towel now!) --Char |

This is beautiful. Simply stunning. I know it should leave me with a lightness of soul, a relief from the laying down of my burdens, but for some reason...it has an air of sadness about it, a deep etched melancholy that invades my soul. Maybe it is me, taking the world on my shoulders? I don't know... Maybe it is just me, immersing myself in the fluid waters of your poetry and feeling rather than reading your words. A new favorite of mine...

I think from the first time we learn to swim...(no even before that for are we not surrounded in water even in the womb?)we equate the soothing smoothness of our naked bodies gliding through water cleansing and freeing. You capured the metaphor here brilliantely and sweet Kate it is perfect just as it is...enjoyed.
