Hmm, deep water here, Kate.
I'm reading Norman Mailer's Castle in the Forest about the family history of the Hitler family; apparently, young Adolf was a client of the devil. It does seem sometimes that angels and demons are battling it out here on the Good Earth.

Kate, though this is not a haibun, who cares? It's marvelous
poetry. I really love these lines:
Immortals stand tall, faces upturned,
and sip from bills of humming birds,
wings of heaven fanning their face.
Beautiful! Yours in envy, -gene. |

Kate,
This pushes boundaries with its rich thought and expression and has me thinking of the human and immortal conditions we are heir to. And the ending, the 'no way to read the truth in the countenance' has a deep Shakespearean ring to it.
