SHADOW

How I would outrun you,
your saucer-eyed surprise round
every moonlit corner;
your long face of pity
under canopy of pines.

Still you tapped my shoulder,
lengthened my grasp
on worlds from which
I’d otherwise slip anchor;

minimised me to a
dark, crouched ball,
fire blazing overhead.

I drained you pale as tallow
but still you waxed lyrical
like a softly sloughing skin,

completing my incompleteness.

Kate,
You capture that saying about opposites completing one another. There are so many things we'd never be exposed to without that perfect someone to show us and vice versa. Love your word choices in this one. Hugs,
Sheila

Opposites attract and a shadow is reassuring, you just have to accept that it's there. To be complete, it sounds so good, it sounds so true and yet, I wonder if I really understand what it means "to be complete". Sorry, these are just random thoughts after reading your inspiring piece of writing.
I love those "p" sounds in the first stanza... Lovely imagery of contrasts. :)
